Metropolitan Golf Club

3000 Fairington Road was the address for Metropolitan Golf Club in Dekalb County Georgia, south if I-20 and just east of Panola road. Metropolitan operated from 1968 to 2000 with Bermuda fairways and Bent grass greens. Metropolitan had a championship yardage of 6,996 yards with a rating of 74.2 and a slope of 138.

The City of Stonecrest is negotiating to buy the 66.25 acre tract, which featured a hole that could be seen prominently from I-20 in 1999 the year before it closed. A hilly par 4, the hole along with the previous hole and the next hole surrounded a triangular lake, still visible, that is the anchor of an apartment complex.

Undeveloped land up for bid by Stonecrest includes less than half of the old golf course. The land is about 80% utilizable, as the Pole Bridge creek meanders through and slightly more the 20% will be retention and flood plain. The useful are should be large, due to the ability of municipalities to bend zoning and to install large recreational areas, such as parks and soccer fields, which can be allowed to flood to handle higher periods of water table.

Metropolitan was alleged to be designed by Robert Trent Jones, Sr. and Rees Jones. Metropolitan included a restaurant and driving range.
